Mission No. 30

Madlax and Zathire appared under the tree. To their right, after few hundred of steps there they could see city. Its hudge buildings reached high for the sky.

Zathire drew his sword immediately. "What the hell is that?" It was a car driving through the park. "If you need me to take it out I understand..." His eyes searched for a weakness and eventually decided its wheels could be easily flipped over like any other siege equipment. However it didn't seem like a threat. Perhaps it was just something he wasn't used to. He wasn't freaked out, though he was ready to deal with it quickly since he didn't know much about this place. Before he could get an answer a granny parked in the parking lot and let her children out to play in the park and blow bubbles for them to chase and pop.

Again he'd never seen anything like these bubbles, but could assume them harmless for now. "Eh... Just let me know when something is or isn't dangerous... I'm gonna admit. This is all new to me."

Madlax remembered this place. She appeared in this exact spot sometime ago on her first mission in Vulkana. That's why the end of the woods seemed so familiar to her. As well as the view of the city further away. As they walked towards the city Zathire seemed to be startled by this modern city's surroundings. Madlax thought it's kind of funny how he jumped around fearing every single thing. Things that people use as tools to make their life easier. This big brave warrior with an even bigger weapon was actually ready to fight a car. She couldn't help but laught a bit.
-You mean you've never seen anything like this before?
Madlax asked her companion after his words and glanced at him in surprise. The world in Vulkana was really similar to where she was from therefore she was used to all this technology. But Zathire was different. Madlax began to wonder what kind of place Zathire was from.
-You should better hide your sword for now. People might get scared of it. We don't want any trouble.
Madlax warned Zathire with a kind tone and smile. She seemed to be smiling most of the time. As if she could never get angry. Compared to Zathire she looked like a calm fragile girl who was too kind for her own good.

Zathire actually had no sheath, nor did he have a means to know he could leave it without it being taken. "Hmm..." It was clear on his face that the idea of leaving his sword behind was the same as a child might feel about their teddy bear. He scratched his head. "Maybe I can disguise it as something else or if it's not too late send it back to our camp?"

Eventually he abandoned looked for a lonely area and staked it next to a tree.

Then began walking into the city. Feeling like a gentleman he sort of mixed up his old habits with a spur of the moment reaction as they passed a pizza shop. With a single thrust of his neck he tipped his head forward and shattered the glass window. Carefully he strode his foot through the broken glass and screaming women that fleed the area. He reached over the counter and grabbed 4 boxes of pizza and then stepped back out the window.

The panicking people seemed to have no effect on him, and it was quite obvious he was used to doing such things before as he handed her a box, however he didn't seem to understand the repercussions of his actions. It was very likely that she'd be giving him a weird face right now, in which he would simply answer if she did: "What, are you a vegetarian?"

-Maybe we could wrap it up in something..
Said Madalx meaning Zathire's giant sword but the guy didn't listen much. He hid the sword behind a tree and went away which really surprised Mad. At one point it looked as if the guy couldn't part with his sword but the next second he's already fine with leaving it in a place where anyone can take it. Especially if those thieve elves who Madlax had to encounter on her last visit here saw it. In any case she followed Zathire to the pizza shop.

The last thing Madlax expected was what Zathire did next. He just broke into the shop, took a few pizza boxes and went out as if nothing happened. What's even stranger that for someone who knew nothing about the civilised life in this place he sure seemed familiar with the food here. She stood near the shop and looked at Zathire with her big open eyes staring at him surprised. And after he offered pizza to her Madlax snapped and hit her partner straight to the head.
-You can't do that!

He took out a slice and was about to bite down when he got slapped. He paused and put the slice back in the box. He seemed confused by her statement. Surely the people here were weaker, the concept that he had to earn it was completely missed by the barbarian. In his mind it was their fault for being too weak to defend it. "What's wrong? It smells good to me." His question almost seemed to ask if it was poison from the way he said it.

Costomers of this shop were shocked, and owner stood still for a couple moments too. People in street looked at the sceen in surprise. After few seconds there rouse panic.

There was mans voice and soon two guys showed up ready to take Madlax and Zathire down.

Brown haired guy laied his hand on Madlax shoulder, and Blond one used binding spell on Zathire.

Before Madlax could act it was time to do something smart before doing something dumb. Sure he didn't care what happened to him, but he wasn't going to let her take the blame for his barbarisms. After finding that these annoying wizards had magic stronger than his muscle he opened his mouth. "Ha, what a bunch of idiots, going to throw everyone in prison who tells me not to steal? I guess no good deed goes unpunished." He'd gladly except any punches with his face for pissing them off. "Well cutie, it looks like we're going to share a cell together," he gave dirty scumbag smile to convince the cops he was just some perverted idiot trying to offer some lady a piece of pizza to impress her. Zathire didn't mind going to prison alone. In fact he liked the idea of getting to see the inside of the city. Criminals often had the best information. Splitting up might be perfect for a while, he just had to hope she caught on and acted like she didn't know him rather than try and be a hero and save him. He wasn't going to do something as ridiculous as wink, she'd have to figure out he was acting on her own.

If all went according to plan he could gather info from the prison while she searched the streets.

Madlax suddenly felt the urge to facepalm after hearing Zathire's question when he got slapped. The guy really didn't have a slightest clue what he was doing wrong. Before she even tried explaining the situation to the barbarian two more men interfered. Madlax felt someone's hand on her shoulder. Originally she wasn't gonna turn around to the guy, as if she didn't see it coming, but Zathire's actions made her pay more attention to the crew.

Zathire's words made absolutely no sense to Madlax. And that dirty smile somehow looked very creepy to her. She was stunned. Madlax had never been put to a situation like this before. Usually her partners could grasp the danger they are in and act on their own, but this time it was completely the opposite.
-Sorry to disappoint you, but I hate being locked up.
Despite everything Madlax showed Zathire a friendly smile but her words meant that she's not intending to go with his plan. From her own experience she knew that the guys will not go into talks with a strange couple like them. Also she didn't have any money to pay for the damage. The last thing she wanted was to be beaten up and then locked up somewhere until the guys find a way to take advantage of them. Maybe even sell them to some place. Unlike Zathire, Madlax knew that those guys weren't police and they won't just let them go. Especially now after Zathire's rudeness. Even though she still wanted to try and see if it was possible to escape without making it into a big scene. She just hoped that her partner won't do anything stupid in the process. She raised her hands slightly showing that she doesn't wanna fight and asked with a cute smile.
-Can't we talk this over?

-Ooooh jie netgi labai nevietiniai - said blonde and smiled after hearing that couple. He came closer to his partner and stood in front of Madlax, whanting to see her face. He didn't pay attension to Zathire anymore, as that guy got binded so easily, he might by weak against magic.
-Than... start talking, sweetie... if you think it will help you- same blonde guy tryed to speak some words in there language and moved friends hand from womens shoulder. Guys whanted to settle everything quietly too, because there ware lots of curious people surrounding tham.

Madlax didn't seem to be taking his cue and it looked like she might take a different approach. Zathire kept a constant strain on this spell any moment of weakness and he'd break free. He could certainly bend the metal bars in the prison if this place was anything like his own. These people wouldn't know that from first and experience.

Why this bind was so strong he didn't know, but he didn't have a choice right now except to wait and be useless.

Madlax felt a lot better having the man's hand off of her shoulder. Zathire seemed to be calmer than before too. Everything was going better than she anticipated. The only problem was, she had no idea what she could say to stop this conflict. After a short pause, Madlax started talking.
-We meant no harm...
She started while still thinking of an explanation. Saying the truth would only get them into trouble. Also no-one would believe them anyway. So Madlax decided to come up with some kind of a ridiculous story instead.
-We haven't had anything to eat in days so my partner got a little excited when he smelled pizza.. You know how it is.. When you're THAT hungry your mind starts playing tricks on you.
Madlax didn't even know what she was saying herself, but nothing else came to mind and she had to reply fast. She was looking at the two men giving them an innocent look.

Men listened to Madlax story, than glanced at each other and looked at Zathire. They had lost looks in their eyes, because the girls story tricked them.
-You're lucky that Albert saw you coming out of forest. Otherwise your story would be hard to believe, - said one of the guys and wanted to free Zathire from his binding, but suddenly changed his mind.
-But you have to fix this store somehow, or pay for caused damage. If you can't, we'll take you with us

How about this. I caused the damage, I'll go with you she tried to talk sense into me I think it's only fair you let her go for now. In the back of his mind he knew he had one thing he could sell that would pay for the broken glass. His sword, but he'd rather die fighting than part with it. It was hard enough to leave it in the wooded area, at least he felt safe leaving it near trees. It reminded him of his home with the elves back when he was alive. He looked calmly to Madlax. "Look if you find money you can always come pay the fee. I'll be waiting at the prison for my time you can come pay if you need to get me out early."

He acted calm, but in truth he had no intention of staying cooped up once he was inside. It may not appear like he was anything special, and that was fine by him. He didn't need them putting him in some maximum security they might if they knew how easily he could bend metal bars.

Madlax listened to Zathire's words but still couldn't understand why he wanted them to part ways so much. She had no idea what that big pile of muscles had in his mind and only sighed. Then she glanced at the two men who they were talking to.
-We'll fix your shop.
Madlax gave a sincere smile to the men and then turned to her partner.
-I don't think it's the prison they were going to take you.
After whispering her thoughts to Zathire Madlax only smiled and looked at the men from Vulkana.

-Fine, - the man snaped his fingers, freeing Zathire from his bind. - We'll check on your work later, and if owner won't be pleased... we'll think of something then.
Men walked away and crowd of quiriuos people started to split too.
